It was on an autumn evening in Paris that our paths first crossed. We didn’t know each other yet, but that night, a film was waiting for us: Hear Me Out (On est fait pour s’entendre). A moving story about hearing loss, blending tenderness, humour, and romance.

Who could have imagined that barely two years later, our first album - titled Faits pour s’entendre - would come to life, and that our two souls would be forever bound, through love and music? From the very beginning, it felt obvious: our two pianistic worlds, though different, had to meet. Why not play together? Why not merge our styles?

Louise, rooted in classical tradition, an academic; Dexter, a self-taught jazzman. Where classical music draws on the depth and precision of written scores, jazz embraces freedom and improvisation. Two contrasting realms, yet profoundly complementary. Louise can interpret anything; Dexter can invent everything. This duality became our driving force - a fertile ground for exploration and creation, pushing us to go further, together.

Our repertoire has grown like a dialogue between eras and sensibilities - from the airy brilliance of Bach’s Toccata, to the introspection of Chopin’s Prelude, composed during his convalescence in Mallorca. After our reimagining of the fabulous Aria from the Goldberg Variations, Debussy and Ravel lead us through a play of shadow and light, with delicate arabesques and shimmering waters. Folk rhythms animate Bartók’s music, while Satie suspends time with his enigmatic Gnossienne. Our journey concludes with a medley of pieces by “Monsieur Croche,” where reverie meets mischief.

This debut album is an invitation - to listen deeply, to open your heart to the other, and to embrace what at first feels unfamiliar. For it is in connection, in openness, that we truly come to understand one another. And in that sense, we are all (or almost all) Faits pour s’entendre - made to understand each other.
